MODIFIKASI DAN PEMANFAATAN BENTONIT ALAM SEBAGAI COAGULATION AGENT PENGOLAHAN AIR LIMBAH PABRIK TAPIOKA
Research on the modification and utilization of natural bentonite as coagulation agent for wastewater of tapioca factory has been carried out. The material used in this research is natural bentonite from Baturaja modified with ammonium chloride. The results of the modification used as a coagulation agent that plays a role in the treatment of tapioca factory wastewater in overcoming turbidity, TSS and COD levels. Bentonite was characterized using FTIR and XRD instruments. The results of FTIR analysis show that natural dan modified bentonite did not show the change of wave number in significant, due to the ammonia that evaporated during the heating process and the results of XRD show the crystal size from natural bentonite is 38,35 nm and size after modification become 107,14 nm. The determination of the optimum dose of modification natural bentonite as a coagulation agent can be calculated based on the efficiency of reducing the turbidity value, which is 4000 mg/L with a time of 25 minutes. In testing of TSS the natural bentonite modification was able to reduce TSS levels from 588 mg/L to 79 mg/L. In testing of COD the natural bentonite modification was able to reduce COD levels from 559,7 mg/L to 63,3 mg/L. The modification of bentonite in this study are able to play a good role in overcoming the problem of turbidity, TSS and COD levels in the tapioca factory wastewater compared to the Tapioca Industrial Wastewater Quality Standard According to the Minister of the Environment No. 5 of 2014.
