Synthesis layered double hydroxide (LDH) Ni/Al and preparation Ni/Al-Cellulose layered double hydroxide composite have been carried out. The material obtained was used in the adsorption process of malachite green dyes. The material was analyzed by X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform-Infra Red (FT-IR), and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). Ni/Al-Cellulose LDH composite was applied in adsorption of malachite green dyes which was carried out in variations of pH, time, temperature and concentration. The regeneration process of used adsorbent also studied. The result of XRD analysis of Ni/Al LDH and Ni/Al-Cellulose LDH composite showed diffraction peaks at an angle of 11° indicating the presence of a layered structure, and 60° the presence of interlayer anions. FT-IR analysis of material Ni/Al LDH and Ni/Al-Cellulose LDH composite showed metal group Ni-O, Al-O, and nitrate anions at a wavenumber of 1381 cm-1. Ni/Al-Cellulose layered double hydroxide composite has a wavenumber of C-OH group at 2337 cm-1 which is an adsorption from cellulose. SEM analysis Ni/Al LDH has average particle size of 0.139 μm. Ni/Al-Cellulose LDH composite has average particle size of 1.128 μm. Ni/Al LDH and Ni/Al-Cellulose LDH composite got the optimum pH at 7. Ni/Al-Cellulose LDH composite followed a pseudo second order, adsorption kinetic model with a k2 value of 0.00050 g/mg.min. Adsorption isotherm of malachite green dyes followed Langmuir isotherm with maximum adsorption capacity (Qm) of 107.527 mg/g. The thermodynamic parameters showed that the adsorption process was endhotermic which indicated by an enthalpy value 25.778 kJ/mol and an entropy value 0.099 J/K mol. The adsorption process for malachite green dyes occurs spontaneously, which indicated by Gibbs energy value -8.687 kJ/mol. The Ni/Al-Cellulose LDH composite can be regenerated six times with an adsorption capacity 54% so, Ni/Al-Cellulose LDH composite can be used continuously.
