PEMBUATAN DAN KARAKTERISASI ELEKTRODA DENGAN KATALIS Pt-Co/C SERTA UJI KINERJA MEMBRANE ELECTRODE ASSEMBLY PADA PROTON EXCHANGE MEMBRANE FUEL CELL (PEMFC)
The manufacture and characterization of electrodes with Pt-Co/C catalysts as well as performance tests of the Membrane Electrode Assembly (MEA) on the Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell (PEMFC) have been carried out. Pt-Co/C catalyst was made with various mass variations of Pt to Co by impregnation method. Each Pt-Co/C catalyst with variation/mass ratio Pt:Co = 1:0; 0.75:0.25; 0.50:0.50; 0.25:0.75; 0:1 was made to be electrodes using a loading of 0.5 mg/cm2 and electrode area of 1 cm × 3 cm for electrode characterization and 5 cm × 5 cm for the manufacturing of MEA. Pt-Co/C electrodes were characterized using Cyclic Voltammetry (CV), Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS), Linear Sweep Voltammetry (LSV), and X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) methods. The electrode with Pt:Co = 0.75:0.25 alloy showed the best catalytic activity and the ability to conduct electricity after Pt electrode without alloy and Co without alloy with ECSA value of 640,286 cm2/g and conductivity value of 2,246 x 10-2 S/cm and the peak current on the LSV curve was 0.0173 A. The results of XRD characterization showed that the procedure carried out was in accordance with the emergence of peak for platinum at 2θ = 43.58º and 42.42º and for cobalt at 2θ = 54.76º and 54.9º. The Manufacturing of MEA utilized Pt-Co/C electrodes with the best alloys. MEA was made by combining Pt-Co/C electrodes and Pt/C electrodes on both sides of the Nafion-212 membrane which functioned as anode and cathode. MEA performance testing based on the cell potential value before being given a load gained an OCV (Open Circuit Voltage) value of 0.735 V.
