EFEKTIVITAS EKSTRAK BUAH MAHKOTA DEWA (Phaleria macrocarpa (Scheff.) Boerl) 80% TERHADAP KELARUTAN KALSIUM DENTIN AKAR GIGI
Backgroud: Mahkota dewa (Phaleria macrocarpa (Scheff.) Boerl) is a traditional plant which conlains flavonoid, saphonin, alkaloid, and pholifenol. Based on previous studies had been known that Jlavonoid was able to dissolve kidney stone calcium. Dentin contains many inorganic materials present in C03 (PO4)2. Flavonoid contained in mahkota dewa fruit suspected capable dissolving calcium of tooth root dentin. Purpose: The aim of the study was to identify the ejfectiveness of mahkota dewa fruit extract 80% to the calcium solubility of tooth root dentin which is one of the ideal characteristic of root canal irrigation material. Melhod: The study was an experimental laboratory. The samples were twenty seven first upper premolar permanent indicated of orthodontics and caries free, cut at cemento enamel junction then tooth root soa/ced in the mahkota dewa fruit extract 80%, EDTA 17% as a positive control, and aquadest as a negative control at 5 minutes. The experiment had been done in Chemical Analysis Laboratory of the Department of Chemistry FMIPA Sriwijaya University. The calcium solubility of tooth root dentin was measured by using AAS. Data were statistically analyzed by using SPSS with one wayANOVA followed LSD test. Result: The result of this study showed that the average of calcium solubility of tooth root dentin after soaked for 5 minutes in the mahkota dewa fruit extract 80%, EDTA 17%, andaquadest was 6.31±0.58, 13.57±0.92, and 0.00±0.00, respectively. Conclusion: EDTA 17%> more effective in dissolving calcium of tooth root dentin than mahkota dewa fruit extract 80% and aquadest.
