The malachite green dye in industrial wastewater can be removed by the adsorption method. The adsorbents used in the adsorption method were LDH Ni-Cr, cellulose, and LDH Ni-Cr/cellulose composite. Ni-Cr double-layer hydroxy material and Ni-Cr/Cellulose double-layer hydroxy composite were synthesized by the coprecipitation method and were successfully carried out. The characterization of the material was carried out using XRD, FTIR, and SEM analysis. The results of the synthesis of double-layer hydroxy and Ni-Cr/Cellulose double-layer hydroxy composite were used as adsorbents for green malachite dye in the regeneration process with variants of pH, time, concentration and temperature. The results of XRD characterization of Ni-Cr/Cellulose double layer hydroxy composite showed peaks at diffraction angles of 11°, 22.8°, 34.8°, and 60.3° which are typical regions of the Ni-Cr double layer hydroxyl and at diffraction angle of 22.67˚ which is a typical area of cellulose material. The results of the FTIR analysis show the specific vibrations of the double-layer hydroxyl at wave numbers 3425.58 cm-1(O-H), 617.22 cm-1 (M-O), 1627.92 cm-1 (H-O-H), and 1381.03 cm- 1 (NO3-). Ni-Cr/Cellulose double layer hydroxy composites showed vibrations at wave numbers 3425.58 cm-1 (O-H), 1635.64 cm-1 (H-O-H), 2337.72 cm-1 (C-O), 1627.92 cm-1 (O-H) bending, and 1381.03 cm-1 (NO3- ) and there are C-C and C-O groups which are absorption from cellulose. SEM analysis showed that the Ni-Cr/Cellulose double layer hydroxy composite has the properties of double layer hydroxyl particles in the form of irregular aggregates. From the EDX data, there are 38.1% oxygen, 26.0% carbon, 15.5% nickel, 9.2% chromium, 5.6% sodium, and 5.6% nitrogen. The optimum pH was found at pH 7 when there was no addition of H+ or OH-. The optimum time for adsorption at 150 minutes has reached equilibrium. The pseudo second order adsorption kinetic is more suitable to explain the adsorption process of green malachite dye. The parameter adsorption isotherm of green malachite dye on the three adsorbents leads to the Freundlich isotherm model and occurs spontaneously.
