PRODUKSI HIDROGEN DENGAN METODE ELEKTROLISIS AIR MENGGUNAKAN PEM ELEKTROLISER PADA KOMPOSISI KATALIS Cu2O/C DAN KONDISI AIR BERVARIASI
Hydrogen can be used as an energy carrier be converted into electrical energy using a fuel cell with a by product of water. In nature, there are a lot of abundance of hydrogen however the existence is not as a free atom but affiliated with other elements, one of which is water. One of the methods that used to produce hydrogen by using PEM water electrolysis. This study using PEM water electrolysis with different variation of catalyst of Cu2O:C that applied on Gas Diffusion Layer (GDL) to from electrodes. The electrodes are characterized using Cyclic Volammetry (CV) method to calculate the active surface area of catalyst (ECSA) and Electrochemical Surface Area (EIS) method to calculate the conductivity of electrodes. The optimum ECSA values was on an electrode with variation of Cu2O:C 65:35 of 49,295 cm2/g and the optimum conductivity value was on an electrode with variation of Cu2O:C of 56,640 S/cm. The optimum of rate of hydrogen production using single electrolyser was on MEA with the ratio of catalyst Cu2O:C 65:35 with current density at 0,08 A/cm2 and rate of hydrogen production at 1,667 mL/s. The 65:35 catalyst was tested using a double cutting electrolyzer, the best production rate was obtained at a current density of 0.05 A/cm2 of 3.411 mL/s and a test for warm water conditions at a temperature of 60-70oC with a density of 0.12 A/cm2 was 2.427 mL/s s.
