Penelitian ini memiliki tujuan untuk mengetahui latar belakang munculnya kebijakan-kebijakan Presiden Donald Trump terkait isu imigran di perbatasan AS-Meksiko. Selama menjabat, Trump mengeluarkan tiga kebijakan, diantaranya pembangunan tembok perbatasan, MPP (Migrant Protection Protocol), Kebijakan Zero Tolerance, dan penerapan Title 42. Kebijakan-kebijakan yang dikeluarkan oleh Trump semasa kepemimpinannya ini telah menciptakan permasalahan baru di perbatasan AS-Meksiko. Kebijakannya pun tergolong sebagai kebijakan anti-imigran. Penelitian ini dianalisis dengan menggunkan pendekatan Konstruktivisme Unit level yang menekankan faktor domestik sebagai pembentuk arah kebijakan negara. Metode penelitian yang digunakan peneliti adalah metode kualitatif deskriptif dan data yang dihimpun melalui jurnal, buku, surat kabar (cetak maupun digital) yang berkaitan dengan penelitian ini. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa hal yang melatarbelakangi munculnya kebijakan anti-imigran di perbatasan AS-Meksiko oleh pemerintahan Trump adalah pengaruh dari identitas sosial Trump yang dibentuk oleh identitas kelompok kepentingan dan struktur sosial atau faktor ideasional yang sedang berkembang di AS, seperti bangkitnya Konservatisme di AS. This research aims to determine the background of the emergence of President Donald Trump's policies regarding the issue of immigrants at the US-Mexico border. During his precidency, Trump issued three policies including the construction of a border wall, MPP (Migrant Protection Protocol), Zero Tolerance Policy, and application of Title 42. The policies issued by Trump during his leadership have created new problems at the US-Mexico border. The policy is also classified as an anti-immigrant policy. This research was analyzed using a unit-level constructivism approach which emphasizes domestic factors as forming the direction of state policy. The research method used by the researcher is descriptive qualitative method and data collected through journals, books, newspapers (print and digital) related to this research. The results of the study indicate that the reason behind the emergence of anti-immigrant policies on the US-Mexico border by the Trump administration is the influence of Trump's social identity which is shaped by the identity of interest groups and social structures or ideational factors that are developing in the US, such as the rise of Conservatism in the US.
