The study examines the “Late Adolescence Hanging Out Lifestyle at the Modern Café (Study at Kedai Siru and Kedai Dalu 2 in Palembang City)”. The lifestyle of hanging out in contemporary cafes has become a current phenomenon because it is seen as a need for social recognition or a kind of prestige to maintain one’s status in the social environment. In this study, the research method used is descriptive qualitative. Data collection techniques used are in-depth interviews, non-participant observation and documentation. This study uses the practice of lifestyle theory from Bourdieu and the concept of representation from Stuart hall. The results of this study are that the late teens hang out in the contemporary café can’t be separated from activities that aim to be recognized and show the late teens self-existence while hanging out in contemporary cafes.
