PERBEDAAN TINGKAT KEJADIAN KARIES ANTARA UMAT VEGETARIAN DAN NON VEGETARIAN DI MAHA VIHARA MAITREYA DUTA PALEMBANG
Dental caries is a process of demineralization in dental hard tissue, which is caused by acids present in a carbohydrate produced by the bacteria, followed by damage to organic materials. Dental caries has a multifactorial etiology, which is the host, microorganisms, food, and time. Food is one of the factors causing dental caries. Different diets on the people of vegetarian and non vegetarian can affect oral health. The purpose of this research is to know the difference between the incidence of caries in vegetarian and non vegetarian people in the Maha Vihara Maitreya Duta Palembang. The study included 76 samples were divided into two groups, namely 38 people vegetarians and 38 people non vegetarians. Sampling using purposive sampling technique with a criterion for the vegetarian group: willing to fiil out the informed consent, questionnaires, do not suffer from diabetes, has undergone a vegetarian diet > 1 year and cooperative. Criteria for non-vegetarian groups as control groups: are willing to fiil out the informed consent, questionnaire, did not have diabetes, do not undergo a vegetarian diet and cooperative.
