Childs in the elementary school still depends on their parents, especially their mother. In the daily life, parents can be a model or an examplefor their children tofollow. So the behaviour and habits ofmothers can be an examplefor their children. The mother ’s knowledge and education about oral hygiene will determine their child’s oral hygiene. Thereby, it needs to be done a study about the correlation between mother’s characteristic with child’s oral hygiene paticularly in the third grade students of Xaverius 2 elementary school Palembang. Objective: This study is intended to know about the correlation between mother’s characteristic with child's oral hygiene paticularly in the third grade students of Xaverius 2 elementary school Palembang. Method: A non-experimental analytic study with the cross sectional approach has been done using a simple random sampling, with 65 samplesfrom the population ofthe third grade students ofXaverius 2 elementary school Palembang. The data processing in this study is using the computerized system and analyzed univariately and bivariately. Result: The result ofthis study that had been obtainedfrom all independent variables, only one ofthem that did not have correlation with oral hygiene index in children, that is the mother’s age variable (p>0.05).
