PERBANDINGAN pH SALIVA ANTARA MENGUNYAH PERMEN KARET YANG MENGANDUNG XYLTTOL DENGAN SORBITOL SETELAH MENGKONSUMSI SUKROSA PADA PERIODE GIGI BERCAMPUR
Children in mixed dentition period have a high risk of dental caries because they often eat carbohydrates, especially sucrose between meals. 5-10 minutes after consuming sucrose, oral pH drops below 5 or 5.5. One of the preventive measures to prevent the decrease of salivary pH is chewing sugar-free gum as xylitol or sorbitol. The content of xylitol and sorbitol in chewing gum has the effect to stimulating salivary flow capacity, increased salivary secretion, and decreased colonization of Streptococcus mutans. This will lead to an increase in the buffer capacity of saliva that can neutralize the pH drops due to carbohydrates glycolysis. The purpose of this siudy was to compare salivary pil between chewing gum containing xylitol with sorbitol after consuming sucrose. This research is a quasi experimental. The sample size is 30 samples that have met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The samples were divided into 3 groups, a group that chewing gum containing xylitol} a group that chewing gum containing sorbitol and control group S.. Data that were taken was the Salivary pH at 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30 minutes after chewing gum for 5 minutes. The data were analyzed by using statis t ical parametric One Way ANOVA test then continued by using pos t hoc test (p
