PENGARUH TONSILITIS TERHADAP MALOKLUSI DAN PROFIL WAJAH
Tonsil enlargement or tonsillitis is the most common factor that causes a person to breath through the mouth. mouth breathing can cause malocclusion and affect the facial profile. it is because when someone breath through the mouth, there is unbalance of muscle movement around the face. The aim of this study was to see tonsillitis influence on malocclusion and facial profile of tonsillitis patients in poli THT RSMH Palembang aged 12-15 years. This was descriptive analytic study with cross sectional approach and analized by chi-square. This study showed that thirty subjects of tonsillitis patients aged of 12-15 years old had an average overbite less than two millimeters and average overjet more than three millimeters. Most of those subjects had Angle Class II molar relationship, most of them also had interpremolar width was less than normal, and had convex shape in facial profile. Therefore, it was concluded that tonsillitis had impact on malocclusion and facial profile.
