PREVALENSI GIGITAN TERBUKA ANTERIOR (OPENBITE ANTERIOR) PADA PENDERITA SINDROMA DOWN (DOWN SYNDROME)
Down syndrome is a chromosomal abnormality that is formed by chromosome 21 (trisomy 21). Growth abnormalities in people with Down syndrome can lead to some complex problems of the teeth and oral cavity, one of them is a habit of mouth breathing. Habit of mouth breathing in people with Down syndrome can lead to anterior open bite malocclusion. It is also influenced by the patient's small mouth with a thick tongue and pallatum to be shallow so that the base of formed tongue thrusting. The research objective was to determine the prevalence of anterior open bite in children aged 7-16 years in SLB (Sekolah Luar Biasa) and YPAC (Yayasan Penyandang Anak Cacat) Palembang who has down syndrome. The research method used a descriptive cross sectional survey which is the type of non experimental research. The results showed anterior open bite discovery of 30 children with Down syndrome as many as 22 children (73,33%) and there are not found in the anterior open bite in children sufferingfrom Down syndrome as many as 8 children (26,67%). Thus the prevalence of anterior open bite in patients with Down syndrome obtained at 73.33%.
