PERBEDAAN POLA RUGAE PALATAL ANTAR SUKU DI SUMATERA SELATAN UNTUK KEPERLUAN DALAM BIDANG PROSTODONSI
There are many variants of shape, size, number, and position of the palatal rugae. Palatal rugae pattems also have differences of gender and race. The pattems of palatal rugae has a role in prosthodontic treatment, which is for increasing retention in the maxillary denture base. Many studies reported that there were differences of palatal rugae based on race and gender but there were no differences on ethnic groups in South Sumatra have not yet studied. The aim of this study was to determine the differences of palatal rugae pattems between ethnic groups in South Sumatra for prosthodontics purpose. This study was descriptive analysis. 140 subjects were divided into five groups as follows Palembangnese, Komering, Sekayu, Semendo, and Pasemah groups. Then the impression of maxillary arch and plaster cast was made. The palatal rugae were classified into a tabulation of shape, size, and number. All data were analyzed statistically using ANOVA and Post Hoc test. The result of this study showed the following dominant features of palatal rugae pattems among ethnic groups in South Sumatra; wavy and straight form, medium and long size, with six until eight numbers of palatal rugae. In conclusion there were a differences in a variety of shapes, sizes, and the total number of palatal rugae pattems among ethnic groups in South Sumatra.
