PENGARUH EDUKASI GIZI TERHADAP PENGETAHUAN DAN KEMAMPUAN MEMBACA NUTRITION FACTS PADA REMAJA 16-18 TAHUN DI KOTA PALEMBANG
Riskesdas 2018 data shows that 8.1% of adolescents aged 16-18 years are underweight and severely underweight, while the prevalence of overweight and obesity is 13.5%. Adolescents as part of modern society tend to prefer packaged foods that are high in salt, sugar, fat. Getting used to reading nutritional value information labels on food packaging is one of the general messages of the Balanced Nutrition Guidelines. However, the results of a study by the National Consumer Protection Agency in 2007 revealed that only 6.7% of consumers in Indonesia paid attention to product labels on food packaging. This research is a quantitative study using a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test and post-test with a control group design. The sample involved in this study collected 60 respondents consisting of 30 respondents in the experimental group who were given education with counseling and 30 respondents in the control group who were given education with leaflets. Sampling was done by simple random sampling. Knowledge data was taken through a knowledge questionnaire obtained through pre-test and post-test. Data analysis used Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test and Mann Whitney U Test (α=0.05). The results showed that nutrition education had an effect on increasing students' knowledge and ability to read nutrition facts as evidenced by the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test in the experimental & control group (p = 0.000). The Mann Whitney U Test statistical test showed that there were differences in the level of knowledge and ability to read nutrition facts in the experimental and control groups. The conclusion of this study is that there is an effect of nutrition education on knowledge and ability to read nutrition facts in adolescents. Researchers suggest that the educational materials obtained can be applied in everyday life to choose healthier food packaging and in accordance with the nutritional status of consumers.
