Smoking is an activity we often found among people in various countries and has increased globally, especially in developing ountries, including Indonesia. Smoking can increase the risk of high total cholesterol. Hypercholesterolemia has been established as a risk factor of various non-communicable diseases, such as heart and blood vessel disease. The various factors that can affect total cholesterol levels are fat intake, nutritional status, physical activity, as well as genetic disorders and hormonal disorders. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between cigarette consumption and total cholesterol levels in employees. The location choosen is Sriwijaya University. The design of this study is quantitative research with cross sectional approach. The sampling technique used was cluster random sampling by determining 4 out of 10 faculties at Sriwijaya University. The research sample is male employees at Sriwijaya University, totaling 92 people. Calculation of the sample is done by using the two-proportion hypothesis test formula. The data analysis used was univariate, bivariate, and multivariate. Bivariate analysis using chi square and simple logistic regression. And multivariate analysis using risk factor logistic regression. The results showed that there was no relationship between cigarette consumption and total cholesterol levels after controlling for fat intake and nutritional status variables. Based on the results of the study, it is expected that respondents with high cholesterol levels can pay more attention to daily intake, nutritional status, and stop smoking. Quitting smoking can be done by stopping immediately, delaying the time of smoking the first cigarette, or reducing the number of cigarettes consumed gradually.
