Solid waste is the residue resulting from activities that are not reused which has the potential to be contaminated by infectious substances such as infectious waste, sharp object waste, pharmaceutical waste, chemical waste, and waste containing heavy metals originating from patients or health facilities staff. In the midst of the covid-19 pandemic, it has resulted in an increase in the generation of waste originating from hospitals, so it is necessary to ensure that medical solid waste is handled properly and in accordance with regulations. The purpose of this study was to determine the medical solid waste management system during the covid-19 pandemic at the Mayjen H.A Thalib Hospital, Sungai Penuh City, Jambi. The type of research used is descriptive research with a qualitative approach. Information was collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. The informants of this study were 5 people, namely the head of the installation, head of the room, sanitarian and 2 waste handling officers. The results of the study found that the activities of minimization, sorting, storage, transportation, storage, and destruction had been carried out. Minimization activities starting from source reduction, waste containers that are in accordance with regulations but in the sorting process mixed waste is still found, in addition to temporary shelters adjacent to the hospital environment, extermination activities use third parties because they do not have an incinerator operational permit, so that it is necessary to monitor and supervise the segregation of waste according to its type and the processing of documents for operating permits for the use of incinerators so that the implementation of management runs well and optimally.
