DERAJAT KEASAMAN (pH) SALIVA SETELAH MAKAN MAKANAN RINGAN YANG MENGANDUNG SUKROSA PADA ANAK KELAS V SD NEGERI 112 KECAMATAN SEMATANG BORANG PALEMBANG TAHUN 2008
Snack containing sucrose is kinds of food that often eaten by people especially children. Consuming sucrose in a certain amount, it will decrease buffering capacity of saliva and the sooner teeth destruction happen and called as caries. The aim of this study was to know the effect of consuming sucrose to saliva pH changes in children. This study is experimental study with cross sectional typed. The subject observed consisted of 30 elementaiy students without caries from SD N 112 Kecamatan Sematang Borang Palembang. This experiment was done in May 2008. The saliva samples were measured before chewing the snack and also in 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21 minutes after chewing the snack by using dygital pH meter. The results showed that pH saliva decreased in 3 minutes after the snack was chewed, the average saliva pH 6,71 (before chewing the snack) to 5,73 (3 minutes after the snack was chewed). Saliva pH was still under the initial pH in 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21 minutes after the snack was chewed, but after 21 minutes the saliva pH was equal the initial pH. Paired t test showed that p < 0,05, it could be concluded that there was a significant different among the saliva pH level before and after chewing the snack. The conclusion of this study is in children it is better to cleaned their teeth after ate the snack containing sucrose.
