PERSEPSI MASYARAKAT TERHADAP KEBAKARAN LAHAN BASAH DI KECAMATAN PEMULUTAN KABUPATEN OGAN ILIR PROVINSI SUMATERA SELATAN
Forest and land fires in Indonesia that occur every year are a serious problem because they can cause disturbances to ecosystems, the environment, and also human health. In 2019, Pemulutan District was included in Ogan Ilir Regency which had a high number of fire incidents with a burned area of around 147.5 hectares. The purpose of this study was to analyze public perceptions of the occurrence of wetland fires in Pemulutan District, Ogan Ilir Regency, South Sumatra Province. This study used qualitative methods and descriptive research design and used a purposive sampling technique as many as 16 informants, namely 4 expert informants and 12 key informants. Data collection techniques used by researchers are in-depth interviews, and document review. The results of the study showed that public knowledge was still minimal regarding the environmental impacts caused by land fires and the community did not yet know the methods of extinguishing fires and the community did not yet have adequate fire extinguishing facilities. Land fires are also caused by social conflicts between people who manage land and land owners whose land is not managed. The community also carried out a culture of clearing the land of the remaining harvest by burning, so that the remaining crops were quickly exhausted and it was easy to replant. Therefore, the government can carry out socialization of forest, land fire disaster mitigation and also there is a need for affirmation for owners of unused land that is not managed, so that land can be managed to reduce the incidence of land fires. The community can also be more concerned about the incidence of land fires by not burning to clear land, but by using tools that can facilitate land clearing.
