UJI FISIK DAN MEKANIK PAPAN PARTIKEL BERBAHAN BAKU KULIT KAYU GELAM (MELALEUCA LEUCADENDRON L.) DENGAN PEREKAT POLYVINYL ACETATE (PVAC)
IMAN HARAHAP. Physical and Mechanical Test of Particleboards Made from Gelam Barks (Melaleuca leucadendron L.) and Adhesive Polyvinyl Acetate (PVAc) (Supervised by HILDA AGUSTINA and HERSYAMSI). The research objective was to determine physical and mechanical properties of particleboards made from gelam barks and adhesive polyvinyl acetate (PVAc). The research was conducted at the Department of Agricultural Technology, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University, Indralaya and Laboratory of PT. Sumatera Prima Fiberboard in March to November 2012. The research used descriptive method by comparing weight of gelam bark particles and adhesive polyvinyl acetate (PVAc) in ratio of 1:1, 2:1 and 3:1. Observed parameters were density, moisture content, swelling, water absorption, modulus of rupture, modulus of elasticity and internal bond. The physical characteristic testing showed that the highest value of density (0.84 g/cm3) and the lowest moisture content (15.92 %) was found in particleboard A (1:1), meanwhile the lowest thick development value (1.75%) and the lowest absorbtion value (28.4%) was found in particleboard C (3:1). The mechanical characteristic testing of particleboads showed that the highest value of modulus rupture (1.91N/mm2) and modulus elasticity (221.64 N/mm2) was found in particleboard B (2:1) and the best value of internal bond (0.1 N/mm2) was found in particleboard A (2:1).
