Background: Thalassemia is an inherited disorder syndrome (inherited). Thalassemia is a disease among the groups most hemolytic anemia. Thalassemia major is a serious blood disease and until now there is no medicine that can cure thalassemia major in total. Thalassemia is a genetic disease that affects the lifetime and throughout his life the patient must take medication or therapy on a regular basis. To survive they require large on a regular basis. The high cost of treatment to encourage govemments to guarantee treatment for all patients with thalassemia thalassemia in Indonesia. Not all costs are bome by the govemment. Lots of other things that must be addressed by the patient's family, including thalassemia didalamya non-medical costs. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the economic burden of families of patients with thalassemia. Methods: This study is a descriptive study design (design) case series about the family's economic burden of patients with thalassemia. Target population in this study is a family thalassemia. The population in this study are affordable thalassemia families whose children receive care and treatment at the Department of Child Health Dr dr. Moh. Hoesin Palembang.Sampel thalassemia research is a family whose children seek treatment and receive care at the Department of Child Health Dr dr. Moh. Palembang Hoesin eligible. Data obtained from children with thalassemia Department medical record data section RSMH child. Parents / guardians thalassemia patients filled out questionnaires Family Economic Burden Patients Thalassemia.Cara or methods used in this study is the questionnaire method (questionnaire) features an interview. The data were obtained from medical records, questionnaires and interviews will be presented in the form of tables, diagrams, and narrative. Results: The results obtained patient data as many as 36 people. Of the 36 patients who obtained the data will only have 30 family samples included in this study. With the assistance received from the govemment thalassemia family, the family thalassemia helped in reducing the enormous cost of medical financing of Rp 1,742,995 to Rp 2,071,474.
