Indonesia consists of various racial and ethnic groups, including Batak Toba ethnic and Arab ethnic. Each race or ethnic group has a distinctive physical appearance. In the field of dentistry, the distinctive physical appearance can be observed by the shape of the head, face shape and the shape of the dental arch. The information about size and shape of the dental arch in Batak Toba ethnic and Arab ethnic is still very lacking when the information about size and shape of the dental arch is one of the important factors in treatment plan and determining the orthodontic diagnosis. The purpose of this study was to determine differences in the size and shape of the dental arch width between the Batak Toba ethnic and Arab ethnic living in Palembang. This research was a comparative study of cross-sectional descriptive analytic conducted on a thirty samples of Batak Toba ethnic and thirty samples of the Arab ethnic, each ethnic consists of a sample of fifteen men and fifteen women samples. AU samples were measured using Pont method for measuring the width of the dental arch and viewed through a model study t o determine the shape of the dental arch with established criteria. T-test results indicate that there was significant difference in the size and shape of the dental arch width on maxillary arch and mandibular arch between Batak Toba ethnic and Arab ethnic living in Palembang (P
