The Komering River has decreased water quality due to the activities of the surrounding community. This study aims to analyze the quality of river water and basic housing sanitation in the coastal area of the Komering River, Serigeni Baru Village, Kayuagung District, Ogan Komering Ilir Regency. This study uses a qualitative method. The informants in the study were the village head, hamlet head I, head of hamlet II, head of hamlet III, people living on the riverbanks of hamlets I, II and III who were selected by purposive sampling. Data analysis used content analysis. The results of the research on the water quality of the Komering River showed that the turbidity parameter in the upstream part did not exceed the maximum, while the dissolved solids (TDS) parameter of the three samples was still below the quality standard, then the pH parameter exceeded the quality standard according to the Minister of Health Regulation of the Republic of Indonesia No. 32 of 2017. And fecal coliform parameters exceed quality standards in accordance with South Sumatra Governor Regulation No. 16 of 2005. Inadequate basic household sanitation facilities, poor waste management, and the absence of wastewater management affect the quality of river water. Poor household sanitation affects the water quality of the Komering River. So it is suggested to the community not to use the river water for sanitation hygiene needs.
