DAYA ANTIBAKTERI EKSTRAK SEREH WANGI (Cymbopogon nardus L.) TERHADAP PERTUMBUHAN BAKTERI Enterococcus faecalis SEBAGAI ALTERNATIF BAHAN IRIGASI SALURAN AKAR (PENELITIAN EKSPERIMENTAL LABOLATORIS)
Sereh wangi (Cymbopogon nardus L.) is a traditional plants which contains alkaloid, saphonin, pholifenol, flavonoid and essential oil. Based on previous studies had known that sereh wangi has antibacterial activity to Streptococcus mutans and Staphylococcus aureus. Antibacterial is an ideal characteristic of root canal irrigation materials. The aim of the study was to identify the antibacterial effect of sereh wangi extract to inhibit the growth of Enterococcus faecalis. The study was a laboratory experimental. The samples are sereh wangi extract with 1, 3, 5, 7, 9% concentration and NaOCl 5% as positive control. Sereh wangi antibacterial activity to the growth of E. faecalis was measured by the diameter of inhibition zone. Data were statistically analyzed by using SPSS with one way ANOVA followed by LSD test. The result of this study showed sereh wangi extract can inhibit the growth of E. faecalis. Higher concentration represents more antibacterial effect. 1% sereh wangi extract is the minimum concentration to inhibit the growth of E. faecalis.
