The first food consumed by babies is human milk or cow milk as an altemative. Milk is very important in the child’s growth like for development of bone and teeth forming. Besides that, milk also has a potential cariogenic because it contains lactose that can be fermentated by the main bacteria causing caries, Streptococcus mutans. The aim of this study was to observe the effects of deciduous enamels immersion in human and cow milk. In this study, 18 deciduous enamels divided into 3 groups (6 samples each) was immersed in aquadest (negative control), human milk and cow milk. The sterilized samples was immersed in saliva, rinsed with PBS, put into BHI (Brain Heart Infusion) media contain Streptococcus mutans culture and then incubated for 24 hours. Each samples group was immersed in aquadest, human milk and cow milk, then incubated again for 24 hours. After that, samples was put into sterilized BHI and rotated with vortex to let the attachment of Streptococcus mutans. This media was diluted until 10-4, put into blood agar and incubated for 48 hours. The amount of Streptococcus mutans was determined by using Colony Counter. The data were analyzed by ANOVA one way, if significant were continued by LSD (Least Significant Difference). The results of this study reveale that cow milk causes the highest growth of Streptococcus mutans than human milk and aquadest with comparison 2,5: 1 to human milk.
