KORELASI EKSPRESI CYCLOOXYGENASE-2 DENGAN SUBTIPE KARSINOMA NASOFARING
Background Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is a malignant tumor that tends to be diagnosed at cm advanced stage, so they have low survival rate and poor prognosis. Cyclooxygenase-2 is an enzyme that is induced during injlammation and neoplastic and expressed in various tumors. The aim of this study is to evaluate the expression of cyclooxygenase-2 in nasopharyngeal carcinoma and to assess the correlation of expression of cyclooxygenase-2 with nasopharyngeal carcinoma subtype Material and Method. This research an observasional correlative analysis study in the form of serial cases with 30 samples of nasopharyngeal carcinoma preparations consisted of 21 cases of non keratinizing undifferentiated nasopharyngeal carcinoma and 9 cases of non keratinizing differentiated nasopharyngeal carcinoma at Anatomic Pathology of Dr. Mohammad Hoesin General Hospital in Palembang on June 2010-June 2011. Cyclooxygenase-2 immunohistochemical stains were performed and the correlation between expression of cyclooxygenase-2 were assesses and analyzed by non-parametric Spearman correlation test. Result Thirty cases of nasopharyngeal carcinoma obtained positifity cyclooxygenase-2 is 63.3% and positifity bot h subtypes of nasopharyngeal carcinoma w as 43.3% are non keratinizing undifferentiated nasopharyngeal carcinoma and 20% is differentiated. Spearman correlation test showed significant correlation between expression of cycIooxygenase-2 and subtypes of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (p> 0.05). Conclusion. In this study we can conclude that there was no significant correlation between expression of cyclooxygenase-2 and subtypes of nasopharyngeal carcinoma
