EFEKTIVITAS PENGGUNAAN BUAH STROBERI UNTUK MEMUTIHKAN PERMUKAAN ENAMEL GIGI YANG TERDISKOLORASI (In Vitro)
Dental bleaching was a procedure to reduce the tooth stained chemically. The discoloration of tooth were caused by physiologic factor and patologic factors which divided into extrinsic and intrinsic factor. Commonly, tooth bleaching materials conlaining hydrogen peroxide or carbamid peroxide with different concentration. Strawberry fruit as natural substance contains ellagic acid which can be rewhitening tooth. The aim of this study was to prove that strawberry fruit has rewhitening effect, and to recognize the effectiveness of using strawberry fruit to bleaching the extrinsic discoloration tooth. Forty premolars were divided into 4 groups, which consist of 2 treatment group and 2 control group. The first group was rubbed with strawberry fruit on the buccal surface for 32 times, the second group was immersed in strawberry juice for 2 minutes, the third group as negative control group (-), and the last group as positive control group (+) which applied with Polanight for 2,5 hour per night. Before the application the samples were immersed in coffee for 3 days. This study was completed in 6 days. The measurement of strawberry effectiveness was determined by using shade guide which can be seen in color change. Acquired data were processed using Wilcoxon signed rank test. It was included that using the strawberry fruits was effective to rewhitening the extrinsic discoloration tooth.
