PENGARUH QUENCHING TERHADAP LAJU KOROSI PADA BAJA KARBON TINGGI
Corrosion is defined as a color change, quality degradation, destructive phenomenon of a material as a result of a chemical and electrochemical reduction-oxidation reaction between a material and various corrosive substances in its environment. The environment is one of the main factors causing corrosion. In this study, the researcher used an experimental method where the research was carried out by looking at the effect of quenching on the corroded specimen. In this study, the specimen used by the researcher was HSS steel (chisel lathe) with a speciment area of 4294 cm. Then the specimen was heat treated using the quenching method with 5 variations of quenching solution and 1 specimen without treatment. From the results of corrosion testing on high carbon steel HSS (chisel lathe) that the author did for 56 days, it shows that after calculating the corrosion rate using the loss weight formula, the corrosion rate value for each specimen where the specimen without treatment has a corrosion rate value. 2.9963x?10?^(-6) mpy, specimens with normal water cooling medium with a corrosion rate of 5,0767x?10?^(-6) mpy, specimens with 1:5 salt water cooling medium with a corrosion rate of 1 ,2670x?10?^(-5) mpy, specimen with water cooling medium gram 1:10 with corrosion rate 1,2670x?10?^(-5) mpy, specimen with oil cooling medium SAE 20 W-40 with a value of corrosion rate 5,3316x?10?^(-6) mpy and specimen with oil cooling medium SAE 20 W-50 with corrosion rate value 4,3082x?10?^(-6) mpy. So the effect of quenching on high carbon steel is to accelerate the corrosion rate.
