Dental erosion is defined as irreversible loss of dental hard tissue by a Chemical process that does not involve bacteria. Dental erosion occurred upon contact wilh acids that are taken into the oral cavity from intrinsic or extrinsic sources. Extrinsic sources include food and acid beverages, such as sport drink. Many of these sport drinks have a low pH and contain various food acidulants, such as citric acid. This acid could be very erosive to dental enamel. An experimental laboratory about differences of enamel hardness by sport drinks immersing w as done. The purpose of this study was to investigate the differences of enamel surface hardness after immersion in some kinds of sport drink Twenty four premolar teeth divided into four groups. The group A was immersed in water (pH ± 7,5), the group B, C, D in the sport drink brand A (pH ±3,1), brand B (pH ± 3,2), and brand C (pH ± 3,5) for 24 hours. The enamel surface hardness measurement was done before and after immersion using Micro Vickers Hardness Tester. The deviation values between enamel surface hardness before and after immersion were analyzed using one way Anova followed by LSD. The result showed that there was a significant difference of the value of enamel surface hardness reduction after sport drinks immersing. It was concluded that sport drink could decreased enamel surface hardness.
