AKUMULASI PLAK DI GIGI PENYANGGA DAN NON PENYANGGA PADA PEMAKAI GIGI TIRUAN SEBAGIAN LEPASAN
Removable partial denture (RPD) is replacement teeth that replace several missing natural teeth. It can be inserted and removed by patient themselves. One type of RPD based on materials is acrylic resin RPD. The components of an acrylic resin RPD are divided into base, saddle, clasp, and artificial teeth. Clasp is a componenl of RPD that gives retention and attach to abutment teeth. The clasp type of acrylic resin RPD is wrought wire clasp. One of disadvantage of wrought wire clasp is the arms are often distorted that causes the arms of clasp are not well adapted to the tooth surface, form a space between the surface of the abutment teeth and arm of clasp that causes a risk factor in increase plaque accumulation. The aim of this study was to assess the dental plaque accumulation between the surface of abutment and non-abutment teeth in RPD wearer. The subjects of the study were abutment and non-abutment teeth in 30 patients who wearing acrylic resin RPD. The plaque accumulation was assessed by using plaque index by Quigley and Hein that modified by Turesky. RPD wearers were scalled and then patients were educated about procedure of right RPD maintenance. The data of plaque score were taken in seventh day after scalling procedure and it were analyzed with Mann-Whitney U Test. The results of calculation showed that the value Z = —3.518. The conclusion of this study was that there was the difference of plaque accumulation between abutment and non-abutment teeth in RPD wearer.
