NEEDS ANALYSIS OF ENGLISH FOR SPECIFIC PURPOSE CLASS FOR FACULTY OF COMPUTER SCIENCE STUDENTS OF SRIWIJAYA UNIVERSITY
The needs analysis was created to measure the level of gaps that occur in student learning from what is expected and what has been obtained. This study aimed to (1) find out the institutional needs of the students of Faculty of Computer Science in learning English for Specific Purposes, (2) find out the learning needs of the students of Faculty of Computer Science in learning English for Specific Purposes, and (3) identify the implementation of the institutional needs and students’ needs in Faculty of Computer Science of Sriwijaya University in learning English for Specific Purposes. The participants of this study are the 79 students from the 6th semester of Information System study program of Faculty of Computer Science Sriwijaya University. The data were collected from questionnaire for students and The English Course lesson plan. The results of the target needs revealed that the needs of the language skills are speaking and writing, and the language aspects are grammar and vocabulary. The results of the learning needs revealed that learning activities should be using practice-based learning with pair-work or group assessment, and the learning process should be used technology and ICT. Finally, the results of the needs analysis can be a determiner for students in order to accomplish the institutional needs.
