this study aims to describe the image of the two main female characters in the novel Layar Terkembang by St. Takdir Alisjahbana, describes the results of research on literary learning in junior high school. The research method that researchers use is descriptive analysis method. Research on the image of the two main female characters in the novel Layar Terkembang by St. Takdir Alisjahbana produces research results which show that the comparison of the images of the two characters in the novel is very much diferent. Character image research also produces new teaching materials and reference materials for teachers to analyze the same novel by analyzing or analyzing character images with diferent literary works. This research can be applied to learning in high school. The KD related to research on the image of characters in novels is in class VII even semester 2013 revisid 2018 curiculum. It can be applied to basic competence (KD) 3.9 to find elenets from fiction and non-fiction books that are read. KD 3.10 Examine the relationship between the elements of fiction and nonfiction books that are read. KD 4.10 presenting responses orally, in writing, visually to the content of fiction/non-fiction books read
