Diabetic retinopathy is a vascular complication which related with diabetes melitus and can demage retinal capillary blood vessel. It because high and uncontrolled blood elucose. Duration and tvoe of diabetes melitus are important factor diabetic retinopathy progressivity. lf patient with diabetic retinopathy was not early detected, it can make blind oermanent for the patient. Diabetic retinopathy can be divided into two types based clinical manifestation, there are non-proliferatif diabetic retinopathy and proliferative diabetic retinopathy. The numose of this research to identifV the characteristic of patients with diabetic retinopathy at Polyclinic Eye Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Hospital Palembang in January 2010- October 2011. The desien of this research is descriotive. The exoeriment was conducted at the Polyclinic Eye Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Hospital Palembang, where the data used comes from outpatients medical record RSMH Palembang. We found 181 patients which tultlll the criteria. they are women (59,7%) more than men (40,3%). The highest incidence is in 45-55 years age group. there are 68 oeoole (37.6%). The highest of tvoe diabetic retinopathy is moderate diabetic retinopathy non ploriterative. there are 73 oeoole (40.3%). The highest of tvoe diabetes melitus is diebets melitus tvoe 2. there are 159 oeoole (87.8%). and most of them were have normal Vision in rieht eye (59%) and left eve (58.5%). This research was conducted at the hosnital. so that the result ohlained onlv from those who have an awareness of fhe disease or those who have the ability to access health care Service. So in some ways it shows ditterent results with eoidemiological studies.
