This study aims to describe social problems, and forms of critique in novel Selamat Tinggal by Tere Liye. The approach used in this research is the sociology of literature approach. The data used in this study are dialogues and monologues that are sourced from novel Selamat Tinggal by Tere Liye. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. The steps in analyzing the date are: (1) Identifying data regarding the form of social criticism (2) Grouping data (3) Perform data analysis, and (4) Conclude the results of the analysis. Based on the results of the analysis, there are 60 social criticism data including: 20 data on bureaucratic problems, 33 data on crime problems, 5 data on family disorganization problems, and 2 data on the problem of violating ommunity norms. The results of this study can be used in learning Indonesian at the third grade of Senior High School curriculm 2013 which is on basic competence 3.8 interpreting the author’s view of life in the novels read.
