PENGHAMBATAN OKSIDASI PIRIT OLEH PUPUK FOSFAT PADA BERBAGAI KONDISI AIR TANAH
Acid sulfate soils are characterized by high content of pyrite and low pH. Under an aerobic condition, pyrite does not present any risk. However, when it is exposed to direct contact with oxygen, it will be oxidized and produce sulfuric acid. Land amelioration is an effort to provide materials to the soil with the aim of improving physical, chemical and biological soil properties. Current research aimed to study the effect of phosphorus (P) fertilizer application and water conditions on inhibiting pyrite oxidation. The experiment was laid out in a Factorial Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 2 factors, namely P fertilizer and groundwater conditions. The results showed that the application of P fertilizer at 1,73 g P2O5 kg-1 combined with maintaining the groundwater table at 5 cm above soil surface was able to inhibit pyrite oxidation better than any other treatments. Although soil pH did not change at the end of the experiment (4,92 to 4.93), both dissolved SO42- and Fe2+ decreasedsignificantly from 149,70 ppm to 6.62 ppm and from 57.50 ppm to 0.33 ppm, consecutively. Keywords: Pyrite Oxidation, Phosphate Fertilizer, Soil Water Condition.
