EFEK MINYAK IKAN TOMAN (CHANNA MICROPELTES) TERHADAP KADAR KOLESTEROL TOTAL PADA MENCIT JANTAN (MUS MUSCULUS)
Background: Excess cholesterol levels in the body could trigger atherosclerosis which can subsequently cause coronary heart disease. Physiologically, body produces cholesterol in a certain amount, but a diet that tends to contain high fat causes excess cholesterol levels in the body. Toman fish, one of the fish found in South Sumatra, contains unsaturated fatty acids which can suppress blood cholesterol, so this study was conducted to determine the effect of toman fish oil on total cholesterol levels. Method: The type of this research was a laboratory experimental using a randomized pre-post-test design with a control group. The experimental animals used were Hypercholesterol-induced male mice (Mus musculus) using high-fat feed, then continued to be given the treatment in the form of samples grouped into 6 groups, namely: negative control, positive control, fish oil with dose I (0.05 g/30gBW), fish oil with dose II (0.1 g/30gBW), fish oil with dose III (0.2 g/30 gBW), and fish oil with dose IV (0.4 g/30gBW). Blood samples were examined using a spectrophotometer. Results: Toman fish oil with dose II (0.1 g/30 gBW) p = 0.003, dose III (0.2 g/ 30 gBW) p = 0.011, and IV dose (0.4 g/30gBW) p = 0.003 has a decreased effect on cholesterol levels total in mice. Conclusion: Toman fish oil can reduce total cholesterol levels in male mice (Mus musculus) starting at 0.1 g/30gBW
