Peat soils are soils formed by the accumulation of organic matter, which is constantly inundated mainly during the rainy season, and plays an ecologically important role in hydrology, carbon storage, and biodiversity regulation. The diversity of peatland vegetation is closely related to the formation of peat layouts. One of the supporting factors for vegetation growth is the stability of the chemical properties of peat soils. In 2019, peatland fires reached 35 hectares in the Sriwijaya Botanical Garden. Fires result in damage to the physical, chemical, and even biological properties of peat. Land fires also scorched vegetation in the land cover. The need for peat restoration, especially revegetation, to improve the land after the fire. This study aims to determine the relationship between vegetation types and the stability of peat chemical properties and provide recommendations for vegetation types to peat conservation in the Sriwijaya Botanical Garden. This research was conducted from November 2021 - January 2022 at the Sriwijaya Botanical Garden, Bakung Village, Ogan Ilir Regency, South Sumatra. This research used experimental methods. The study was conducted directly in the conservation peatland area of the Sriwijaya Botanical Garden, with an observation area of ±100 ha and a map of the observation location on a scale of 1: 10.000. This study used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) and a 5% level of Honestly Significant Difference (HSD). The experimental unit of this study was peat soil, with vegetation types as treatment (forest, shrub, tembesu, meranti, agarwood and gelam) and using three replicates. Differences in vegetation types differ markedly in some of the chemical characteristics of peat soils, such as in the treatment of pH H₂O, Cation Exchange Capacity (CEC), and ash content. But it does not differ markedly in organic carbon and alkaline saturation. The type of vegetation that can be recommended for conservation activities at the Sriwijaya Botanical Garden is tembesu and meranti vegetation. The vegetation is able to stabilize the chemical properties of peat soils, so that in conservation activities it can maintain the original properties of peat.
