AN ANALYSIS OF GRAMMATICAL ERRORS IN SPEAKING ENGLISH MADE BY GOSU GENERAL ON YOUTUBE.
This study was descriptive qualitative. It focused on determining the grammatical errors in speaking English committed by Gosu General on YouTube. The researcher used a descriptive-analytic approach to analyze the YouTuber's grammatical errors. The researcher employed Dulay et al.'s (1982) surface strategy taxonomy as the fundamental idea for grammatical errors. Four errors were defined: omission, addition, misformation, and misordering. Additionally, the researcher intended to determine the distribution of the various types of errors made by Gosu General when speaking English. The subject of this study was the Korean YouTuber Gosu General, and the objective was to determine his grammatical errors when speaking English. The researcher gathered data from the subject’s videos that he published on the YouTube site. Three videos were chosen. The researcher collected data by transcribing the videos into textual data that would subsequently be examined. The results indicated that the Korean YouTuber committed errors throughout all grammatical error categories, including omission, addition, misformation, and misordering, totaling 199 errors. The results revealed that 45 percent of omission was made, 18 percent of addition was made, 28 percent of misformation was made, and only 9 percent of misordering was made. Additionally, omission became the most frequent type of error committed by Gosu General in this study, accounting for 45 percent of all errors.
