IDENTIFIKASI PLANKTON SEBAGAI INDIKATOR BIOLOGI UNTUK KESUBURAN TAMBAK DI LAHAN RAWA PASANG SURUT BANYUASIN SUMATERA SELATAN
The tidal lowland suitability for fish pond development needs to be assessed as tidal lowland has good potential in terms of land and water availability to rear fish, shrimp, and crab. Water quality is an absolute requirement that needs to be considered. Water quality can be assessed from physical, chemical, and biological aspects. One biological parameter to describe the fertility of fish ponds is plankton. This research aimed to indicate fertility by identifying plankton species, index of diversity, density, dominancy, and water quality. This research was carried out in the tidal swamp area of Banyuasin II, Banyuasin Regency, from December 2021February 2022. The results of this study indicated that the abundance of phytoplankton ranged from 1030-1791 individu L-1, an abundance of zooplankton ranging 103-461 individu L-1, dominancy was found for Bacillariace, Cynophyta, Chlorophyta, Protozoa, Rotifera and Arthropoda, diversity index ranged 1-2.6, index of density ranged 0.9-1, index dominancy ranged 0.1-0.8, and water quality (transparency 21-38 cm, turbidity 1.7-9.6 NTU, dissolved oxygen 4.2-5.3 mg L-1, pH 6-7, salinity 16-18 ppt, temperature 30-31oC, ammonia 0.2-0.8 mg L-1, phosphate 0.1-0.3 mg L-1, nitrate 2.0-2.8 mg L-1). The pond’s fertility was at a moderate level (mesotrophic), and the water quality still supports the growth of plankton and milkfish in ponds except for ammonia which exceeded the standard ammonia value.
