PERTUMBUHAN DAN PRODUKSI TANAMAN KEMANGI (Ocimum citriodorum L.) TERHADAP BERBAGAI KERAPATAN POPULASI DAN WAKTU PEMOTONGAN PUCUK APIKAL
This research aimed to determine the effect of various population densities and apical shoot cutting time on growth and production of basil (Ocimum citriodorum L.), and to obtain the best combination between population density and apical shoot cutting time on growth and production of basil (Ocimum citriodorum L.). This research was conducted in Makrayu (2°59'52.8"S 104°44'44.0"E), Palembang City, South Sumatra Province, from June to August 2022. This research was conducted using a Factorial Randomized Block Design method which consisted of 2 factors. The first factor is various population densities with 3 treatments, namely K1 = 1 plant/453 cm2, K2 = 2 plants/453 cm2 and K3 = 3 plants/453 cm2. The second factor was the time of cutting apical shoots with 3 treatments, namely P1 = Control (no pinching), P2 = pinching at 15 DAT (Day After Transplanting) and P3 = pinching at 20 DAT. The total treatment consisted of 9 treatment combinations with 3 replications, each treatment combination consisted of 3 experiments so that there were 81 experimental units with a total of 162 plants studied. The data obtained were analyzed using the variance test and 5% LSD test. The results showed that the treatment of 1 plant/453 cm2 showed the best growth and yield of individual plants compared to 2 plants/453 cm2 and 3 plants/453 cm2. However, the treatment of 3 plants/453 cm2 showed the best value for each yield component. Treatment without pinching showed the highest values for plant height, leaf greenness, leaf fresh weight, stem fresh weight, root fresh weight, root length, leaf dry weight, branch dry weight, stem dry weight, root dry weight, and specific leaf weight. The treatment of pinching at 20 DAT showed the highest values for the number of leaves, canopy diameter, canopy area, total leaf area, ground area, number of branches, fresh weight of branches, specific leaf area, and leaf area index. The combination treatment of 3 plants/453 cm2 which pinching at 20 DAT showed the highest value for each yield component, namely the total number of leaves, total number of branches, total fresh weight of leaves, total fresh weight of stems, total fresh weight of branches, and total fresh weight of the top crop. Keywords: basil, plant population density, apical shoot.
