Obesity is one of the important medical problem in many countries. The prevalence of obesity in children and adolescent is increasing every year. In Indonesian especially South Sumatera, the prevalence of obesity based indicator body weighl and body height reached 20,9%. The Prevalence of obesity reached 16% in boy and 11% in giri. Obesity in children and adolescent have a high risk of obesity in adulthood and potentially experiencing metabolic and degenerative diseases. This study is a survey descriptive analytical with cross sectional design to describe the correlation of adolescent characteristic (age, sex, menarche age, allowance), meal pattem (energy supply, protein supply, foodfrequency), level of parents education and family income on obesity at SMP Xaverius Maria Palembang. The population in this study are 726 students with 102 samples, consist of 51 boy-students and 51 girl-students that selected through stratified random sampling technique. The data obtained were analyzed by using univariate and bivariate statistical tests. The result ofbivariate analyze shows that there is a correlation between sex category (p < 0,05) and the incident of obesity and overweight in the students of private secondary schools in Ilir Timur I Subdistrict, Palembang. The incident of obesity and overweight in the students of private secondary schools in Ilir Timur I Sub-district is correlated by the variable of sex especially in boy-student, while the variables of age category, menarche age, meal pattem (energy supply, protein supply, eating frequency), level of parents education and family income does not have any correlation (p > 0,05). From the result of study indicate, that the prevalence of obesity on adolescent is high enough reached 9,8% and the prevalence of overweight reached 18,6%.
