ARI is an infection that occurs in the respiratory tract that can occur up to 14 days and show a clinical sign and symptom. ARI is still the major cause of morbidity and mortality on children in developing countries. Prevalence of ARI in Indonesia is quite high, approximately 25.5% of case occur every year. Incidence of ARI is influenced by various factors. Purpose of this reseach is to determine the incidence and distribution of ARI’s patient based on several risk factors. This research is cross sectional descriptive survey with descriptive quantitative design. It was conducted on October 31 until December 11, 2011 in Puskesmas Sei Baung Palembang. Samples size is 152 people taken by accidental sampling technique. The samples are toddlers under 5 years. Incidence of ARI among children in Puskesmas Sei Baung Palembang on October 31-December 11,2011 was 6.17%. ARI incidence was highest in the age group 24-35 months (26.31%) and least in the age group 0-5 months (7.23%). Female (51.97%) who suffers ARI was more than male (48.03%). Patients with ARI who were bom with normal weight (94.08%) was more than the low birth weight (5.92%). The average patients has a exclusive breastfeeding (82.23%) and a complete immunization (92.11%). 97.36% of homes with ARI has a kitchen ventilation and 92.10% of homes with ARI has a wali that separated the kitchen with the children’s bedroom. However, as much as 86.8% of patients with ARI have families who was a smoker and 63.16% of patients use a mosquito coils. Health education from medical personnel to the parents which included the causes, effects, and preventions of respiratory infection was important in order to reduced morbidity and mortality due to ARI.
