Soil texture is the relative ratio between sand, silt and clay particles in a soil mass expressed in percent. Soil texture is an important physical property of the soil because it can affect the ability of water absorption, the availability of water in the soil, infiltration and the rate of water movement. Indirectly, soil texture can also affect root development and plant growth. Determination of soil texture can be done directly in the field. Determination of soil texture in the laboratory is carried out using the pipette method and the hydrometer method. The theory of the hydrometer method is similar to that of the pipette method except that it determines the concentration of solids in suspension. This research was conducted at the field laboratory of the Department of Soil, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University, Indralaya, Ogan Ilir. Soil texture analysis was carried out at the Laboratory of Chemistry, Fertility and Soil Biology, Department of Soil, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University, Indralaya, Ogan Ilir. The time of this research was carried out in December 2021 to January 2022. Sampling used the observation method, where sampling in the field was carried out intentionally. To check the soil fraction in the laboratory using two methods, namely the pipette method and the hydrometer method. Statistical tests between methods were determined using a T-test with multiple samples in which differences were calculated from various measurements. Based on the results of the research that has been done, the analysis of soil texture using the hydrometer and pipette methods does not have a significant difference. Analysis using the pipette method is more accurate than the hydrometer method. However, analysis using the pipette method is quite complicated and takes a long time, whereas using the hydrometer method does not take a long time. Keywords: Soil Texture, Pipette Method, Hydrometer Method
