HUBUNGAN PENGGUNAAN JAMBAN DUDUK SAAT DEFEKASI DAN KONSTIPASI DI SMP NEGERI 9 PALEMBANG
Background: Defecation using seated closet is one of constipation causes. Anorectal angle on sitting position is smaller than squatting position therefore the defecation process is easier. The aim of this study is to determine the relationship between using seated closet and contipation of children in Palembang. Method: This study is an Observational analytic study with cross sectional design. It was conducted in SMP Negeri 9 Palembang on November-Desember 2013. Samples were taken by simple random sampling and 101 samples were obtained. The data were processed and analyzed with chi-square test. Results: There were 101 samples that consisted of 40 children using seated closet and 61 using squatted closet. Children who use seated closet have frequency of defecation below three times in a week were 5 children (12,5%), 17 children (42,5%) have hard stool consistency, 8 children (20%) have distress on defecation, and 7 children (17,5%) have contipation. Whereas children using squatted closet: 11 (18%), 18 (29,5%), 11 (18%), and 6 (9,8%). Children who have constipation were 13 children (12,9%). There was no relationship between defecation using seated closet and constipation (p=0,412). Conclusions: There is no relationship between defecation using seated closet and constipation of children in SMP Negeri 9 Palembang.
