Introduction: Cefixime is used widely and often found inappropriate utilazation. So it needs rasionality of the cefixime utilization in dose, frequency given, length of therapy, route of administration, and interaction with other drugs or other antibiotics. The main objectives of this research is lo know rasionality of the cefixime utilization at Kecamatan Ilir Timur I, Palembang City. Method: The research is a descriptive study of cefixime utilization. Samples used were 600 prescriptions which consisted single oral cefvcime, prescriptions were taken from Instalasi Farmasi RSMH, Apotek Graha Spesialis, and Apotek Sehat Bersama in Kecamatan Ilir Timur I, Palembang City. Results: Based on dose, every cefixime utilization was rational. Based on frequency, 565 (94,2%) samples were rational whereas 35 (5,8%) samples were irrational. Based on duration, 527 (87,8%) samples were rational and 73 (12,2%) samples were irrational. Based on administration, every prescription was given rationally. Based on interaction with other drugs, 592 (98,66%) samples were rational whereas only 8 (1,33%) samples were irrational consisted of2 (0,33%) potentiation interactions and 6 (1,00%) antagonistic interactions.
