Introduction: Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease with the highest morbidity and mortality rates in the world and its prevalence is keep increasing. American Heart Associalion, 1999 reported two out of three people with diabetes die of cardiovascular disease, most of them due to congestive heart failure. Impaired diastolic function in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients with congestive heart failure occurs earlier than systolic dysfunction. Echocardiographic evaluation in type 2 diabetes patients can detect diastolic dysfunction in early stage. This study aims to describe the echocardiographic evaluation in type 2 diabetes patients at Endocrine Metabolic Outpatients Clinic RSMH Palembang. Methods: This study was an observational descriptive research with cross-sectional approach included 38 type 2 diabetes mellitus patients who got treatment at Endocrine Metabolic Outpatients RSMH Palembangwithout evidence of hypertensive heart disease, ischemic heart disease, heart valve disease, cardiomyopathy hypertrophy, and chronic kidney disease. Result: Diastolic dysfunction wasfound in 57.90% of patients, most ofthem were women (66.70%). Diastolic dysfunction was found in 100% of patients in 60-69 years age group, 100% in obese, 100% in patients who were not taking medication regularly and 77.80% in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus who have had diabetes for 6-10 years. Conclusion: Diastolic dysfunction was commonly found in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients at Endocrine Metabolic Outpatients Clinic RSMH Palembang. Therefore, blood glucose level should be controlled in order to avoid further complications. Echocardiographic evaluation should be performed as early detection of congestive heart failure.
