This research is entitled "Palembang Typical Carving Crafts: A Historical Study of Art Traditions in South Sumatra Against the Collection of the South Sumatra State Museum "Balaputradewa" The problem of this research is how the history of Palembang typical carving arts: a historical study of art in South Sumatra on the collections of the Sumatran state museum South of Balaputradewa and how changes in the Palembang typical carving art: a historical study of art in South Sumatra on the collection of the South Sumatran state museum, Balaputradewa. The purpose of this study is to find out the history of Palembang's typical carving craft: a historical study of art in South Sumatra on the collection of the South Sumatran state museum, Balaputradewa and the changes in Palembang's typical carving craft: a historical study of art in South Sumatra on the collections of the South Sumatran state museum, Balaputradewa. The method used is a historical research method which includes heuristics, source criticism, interpretation and historiography. Data were collected through observation, interviews, documentation, and literature study. The results obtained in this study were in the pre-literate era with carvings poured on stone and bronze brought by the Dongson culture which were produced with his work in the form of sculptures that were identical with magic. Continuing during the Sriwijaya Kingdom with carvings of a blend of Hindu-Buddhist culture, it gave rise to a new motif, namely flora (plants). Furthermore, during the Palembang Sultanate, carvings were mixed with Islamic culture which forbade carving with living creature motifs and gave rise to a new carving motif, namely calligraphy. Meanwhile, in modern times, carvings are raised with the needs of today's humans. The factors that influence the typical Palembang carving art consist of internal factors and external factors. Internal factors include form, motif, color, technique, material and function. External factors include the role of culture and progress, technology, information and communication.
