Background: Tuberculosis (TB) is a lung chronic disease caused by the bacillus Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Although TB case detection rate is quite high, the treatment success rate is still low at less than 50% with treatment dropout rates reaching 50-80%. Percentage of dropout in Indonesia reached 47.9% and reached 50.6% in Sumatra. The number is much higher than that of the program which is only 13%. This problem can make the achievement of the target of 85 per cent cure fail. Objective: To identify factors causing tuberculosis (TB) treatment default in policlinic DOT RSMH period July 2009-July 2011 Methods: This study uses an analytical study with cross-sectional method (crosssectional). Samples are all adult pulmonary TB patients aged >15 years in the clinic DOT RSMH period 1 July 2009-31 July 2011. There are 96 people that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The data used in this study are secondary data in the register book taken from pulmonary tuberculosis in the Policlinic DOT RSMH and primary data to direct the respondents home visits and conduct interviews with respondents were based on the research questionnaire that has been set. Results: The results showed that the variables that have a significant effect on the incidence of pulmonary TB patients discontinue the treatment is the side effects of medication. Variables that have no effect on the incidence of treatment drop is knowledge, educational level, health education, attitude of health workers, access to health Services, progress of treatment, and the role of the supervisor taking medication Conclusion: The presence of side effects is the important factor to the occurrence of default pulmonary TB patients seeking treatment in adult clinic DOT period July 2009-July 2011.
