Background: Malignanl ovarian tumors are the fourth most common malignancy in women in the world. This malignant tumors are most commonly derived from the type of surface epithelial-stromal. These tumors often occur in women aged over 40 years old. In Indonesia, malignant ovarian tumors is third most common malignancy after cervical and breast cancer. In South Sumatra, there is no data o n malignant ovarian tumor. Objective: Knowing the incidence of malignant ovarian tumors based on histopathologic examination and age distribution in the PA department of Dr. Moh. Hoesin Hospital Palembang years 2007 to 2011. Method: This study was cross-sectional study. This study population was all patients of malignant ovarian tumor that doing histopathological examination at the PA department of Dr. Moh. Hoesin Hospital Palembang years 2007 to 2011. This study used all member of population as study sample. Results: Total of 46091 cases were received in the PA department of Dr. Moh. Hoesin Hospital Palembang years 2007 to 2011. From total 46,091 cases, 2996 cases were malignant tumors of women and two hundred fifty two (8,41%) of them were malignant ovarian tumors. The distribution of these annually were 2007 counted 14,7%, 2008 counted 21,4%, 2009 counted 24,6%, 2010 counied 17,1% and the remaining 22,2%> in 2011. Based on histopatological type, this malignant tumors consist of surface epithelial-stromal tumors(79,8%), germ cells tumors (16,3%), sex cord-stromal tumors (1,2%) and the remainder (2,8%) was metastases tumors. This malignant tumors occur in all age groups and most commonly in group 40-49years (27%>) and 50-59years (27,4%). Conclusion: The incidence of malignant ovarian tumors fluctuated annually and the highest incidence was in 2009. Malignant epithelial ovarian tumors are the most common type of ovarian malignancy. Malignant ovarian tumor most often occur in women in the late reproductive period.
