Background: Type 2 Diabetes MeJlitus is a progressive disease with chronic complications. Foot infections are a major complication of diabetes and usually lead to development of gangrene and lower extremity amputation. The Study of microbiological characteristics of diabetic foot infection have not been studied extensively in Palembang. The purpose of this study is to investigate microorganism and sensitivity patterns of diabetic foot ulcers in inpatients at Internal Medicine of RSMH Palembang Method: This study is a descriptive observational retrospective study using case series study design. Population of this study is all inpatient of Internal Medicine Dept ofRSMH Palembang, January 111, 2012 to December 311\ 2012 period. Two-hundred samples were taken from medical records and the results of sensitivity test of Microbiology Laboratorium ofRSMH. Results: Two-hundred-and-sixty-five microorganism were found from 200 patients. The most frequently isolated microorganisms were Gram-negative bacteria (78.12%), including Pseudomonas aeroginosa (24.15%), Proteus spp. (26.39%), Eschericia coli (9.8l%). Gram-positive bacteria accounted for 22% of all bacterial isolates and Staphylococcus aureus (21.13%) was predominant among gram-positive bacteria The results of antimicrobial susceptibility showed the sensitivity of imipenem and vancomycin were really good. Conclusion: The most frequently isolated microorganisms were gram-negative bacteria Pseudomonas aeruginosa was gram-negative frequently found. Staphylococcus aureus was gram-positive bacteria frequently infecting the foot ulcers. Vancomycin and imipenem were the highest sensitivity level found.
